THIS is what Popeyes is supposed to look like. Every kid was fascinated and had to touch the big black rocks that covered the building. You didn't know why you had to touch them, but your brain said to do it so you did. -
2.
A typical ad (and their signature signage) -
3.
Tshirts, cups, their logos were everywhere -
4.
Yes, there was even a SUPER Popeyes- it was a different atmosphere and even served beer (in New Orleans) -

These lights hung in all of the restaurants -
7.
And here's how the menu used to look -
8.
Every store was slightly different but similar -
9.
This is the guy who created it. That's right, the new company of course stereoptyped with Annie. But Al was a white boy from the south with a love of chicken and a determination to find the perfect biscuit and jambalaya -
10.
Love that chicken from Popeyes. -
11.
And this was Al and his dream. He passed away of cancer before he had to see what happened to his beloved dream. -

Al loved putting on a show for the community, especially at Christmas when he even made it snow at his house for the kids (foam snow, it doesn't snow in SELA) -

27.
There was a Saturday morning cartoon line up hosted by Popeyes. Kids from brownie troops, boyscouts and schools sat in the ever changing audience and the kids all got to eat boxes of chicken. Kids not on the show thought kids on the show were eating chicken at 8am on Saturday morning. And that wasn't weird at all. -
28.
The Popeye pals pak formed a train if you bought enough and got the right boxes. Their toys sucked though -

The uniforms were gaudy but it was the 80s -

The recipe now isn't the same as back then. The spicy is mild, the mild is tasteless and peppery, not seasoned. -
